Japanese Animation: The most misunderstood entertainment in the world
By: Maximillion Fuse, "Kiyosuki"

I know this is a bit off subject of the site, but this is a little something you anime lovers can think about.
I'm no big expert on anime. I used to like Pokemon, but that's all. But I have an anime-absorbed little brother, and I've caught glimpses of some of the shows (Gundam Wing, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, ect.). I've noticed major sex desimimation. It's not only that there are very few heroines, but the way the female characters act compared to the males is what makes my blood boil. The men act brave and bold and downright macho, but I can understand that. The women act much weaker and more helpless, like on the old 50's and 60's movies. Especially, to my surprise, on Sailor Moon.
Every episode that I've seen goes basically like this. Some evil person is wrecking havoc somewhere, the sailor scouts come in and try to stop them, but are absolutely pitiful and are soon beaten down. The evil person is about to finish them, when Tuxedo Mask comes and stops them. Tuxedo Mask, the GUY. The MALE CHARACTER. He gives them some lecture, tells them to be brave and never give up, Sailor Moon uses her best attack and defeats the evil person. What this is saying to the young people watching this, is that girls can't be brave and strong without a man. Same goes for most other anime, except for Pokemon and Digimon, which aren't nearly as bad (as far as I know). Being a girl, I'm strongly against sexism, and I think it should be stopped. Who knows what kind of influence this could have on our peers, and what affect it could have on our future. I'm not writing this to diss anime, but to express my worry for us girls. I don't want to live in a sexist world and have to fight for woman's rights like other woman did 50 or 60 years ago. Sorry that was so dramatic.
