Where have the classics gone?

I am writing this today to express my concern about current video game trends. Many people have forgotten the ground-breaking games that have become the basis of the vast gaming spectrum that we see today. Sure, everyone knows "Super Mario Bros..", but what about the long forgotten ones?

Take Dragon Warrior (NES) for instance. This is probably the most inspired RPG there is. It's story, characters, gameplay, and battle system are so unique and wonderful that they should be displayed in a museum. However, "The Legend of Zelda" came out at the same time, and quicklyovershadowed DW's success. Not that I dislike LOZ, I just wish that more people would recognize Dragon Warrior.

Also, I must recognize the "Final Fantasy" series. While not as isolated as Dragon Warrior, these too have been silenced of their rightful say in the world of gaming. (Exspeccially when Square moved them to other systems)

I enjoy all the "classics" of the gaming world, but please remember the ones that haven't been acknowlegded. They have impacted us just the same or even more as the games with all the attention.

P.S.- I know someone is going to take offense to my condemning Zelda. I love Zelda as much as the next guy, but Dragon Warrior is still No.1 in my book.
