Link and the Dragon
By: Calliope,
the muse of epic Poetry
"Friends! Villagers! Lend me your ears!"
Shouted
the wizened old man.
"Come my comrades, my neighbors, my peers,
To hear a story that's spread through the land."
And so it came that summer day,
A legend from long ago.
As the people sat in the oak tree's shade,
The words began to flow.
"The summer young Link turned 12 years old,
He was enjoying the warm summer days.
When he heard a voice and his blood ran cold,
It uttered a single phrase:"
""Power of fire, scent of fear,
I feel them beckon and call,
Oh how they used to laugh and jeer,
But I'll see to it that they fall.
For I am invincible, day by day,
I chip away my prison walls,
And the blood red sun in the sky as I rise,
Will see that none, none will be spared at all.""
"Back to his home he frantically ran,
To warn of the monster on the loose.
But no one seemed to understand,
That though young, Link spoke the truth."
"The haunting voice, like oil over ice,
Came from a cave so dark and still.
Link felt himself being drawn to it,
Just like he had no free will."
"He had heard warnings about things like this,
Of death and doom at that.
But Link had obviously never heard...
That curiosity killed the cat."
"Farther into the cave he went,
'Til he reached a solid stonewall.
And on the other side he could hear,
That haunting deathlike call."
""Power of fire, scent of fear,
I feel them beckon and call.
Oh, how they used to laugh and jeer,
But I'll see to it that they fall.
For I am invincible! Day by day,
I chip at my prison walls.
And the blood red sun in the sky as I rise,
Will see that none, none will be spared at all.""
"The closer he crept, the louder it roared,
For courage, he did not lack.
Yet when the being blew out of it's holding cell,
Link was thrown 10 feet back."
"Out sprang a monstrous dragon who was
Horrendous beyond belief!
It growled and snarled, blew jet's of fire
And bared its blood-stained teeth."
"Dangerous as it seemed to be,
It wasn't much bigger than Link.
And though its wrath was terrible,
He wasn't as smart as you'd think."
"It chased Link through the valley,
He had to defeat him, lives were at stake.
So Link dodged and the ignorant dragon fell
Headfirst into the lake."
" Its fire put out, it was sleeping,
So back to the cave he went.
Dragging along the dragon he started
To grumble, complain and lament."
" Lucky for Link, a friend came along.
And sealed the dragon back in the cave,
With 4 hands the work went faster and soon,
With a thank you and a wave...
"Link headed home, his battle fought,
Nothing left but a scar,
Along with a faint echo that
Still can be heard from afar..."
""Power of fire, scent of fear,
I hear them beckon and call.
Oh, how they used to laugh and jeer,
But I shall see them fall.
For I am invincible, day by day,
I chip away my prison walls,
And the blood red sun in the sky as I rise,
Will see that none, none are spared at all...
None...none are spared at all.
None
None shall be spared at all.""
" At hearing those last few words,
A shiver down his spine it did send,
So Link turned and walked away,
He never did go back again"
" And now that my tale has ended,"
The wizened old man said at last,
"Remember that the story is true even
If it is the thing if the past."
And as the villagers stared up at the placed,
The dragon would probably be,
It was almost as though they could hear him,
Chanting so hauntingly:
"Power of fire, scent of fear,
I hear them beckon and call,
Oh, how they laughed and jeered,
But I shall make them fall.
For I am invincible, day by day,
I chip away my prison walls/
And the blood red sun in the sky as I rise,
Shall see that none, none shall be spared at all...
None...
None...
None shall be spared at all..."
