Missing the Old Feelings

I can remember vaguely the beginning of Nintendo. I, being born in '83, wasn't quite old enough to remember the beginning. Not that long later, maybe a year or two, is when I really go into it. I don't remember my first game played (unfortunate as it is) but I do remember feelings. Here, I take you on a voyage into yet another "N-feeling" gamer.

Late 80s, about the time I was starting Kindergarden is when I really got into the Nintendo mania. I remember some of my favorite games, John Elways Quarterback, Tecmo Bowl, Excite Bike, Castlevania, The Marios, ZELDA along with the shiny gold cartrdige, Conquest of the Crystal Palace, Mike Tysons Punch Out, and a few others but these were the ones I could remember the most. I dont recall what year it was, but it was about Christmas Time, and about a month before my parents bought my oldest brother (20 as of now but then 9-10ish) Mtv Remote Control. This game was addicting!!!! My oldest brother and second oldest brother (18 as of now but 7-8ish then) used to play it a bit, but they lost interest quick. Soon, they gave me the game for free, and I ended up playing it, and I learned quite a bit of useless facts, but I enjoyed playing the game. I remember that Christmas me, and my best friend at the time, his younger brother, and my brothers in the playroom playing against each other. We had so much fun, we must have spent 90% of the time since school left out playing this game till Christmas Eve (even then we played it till 10:30). I can remember having so much fun we had. I just recently starting to recall the feelings and the times we had.

I remember when friends of the family came down, and we would all huddle into this little room with 2 chairs and a dresser with a t.v. and a nintendo on it, the drawers filled with games and accesories. I remember the game of choice being Tecmo Bowl. Countless hours were spent playing it, I wasn't that good but I still am the reigning champ of Remote Control, which is why we didn't play that game =). I eventually got good enough at Tecmo Bowl to compete, and we would have tournaments lasting into the early hours of the morning playing. Win some lose some, but we had a ball!

This process kept up till that summer, when I was finally up to the challenge of playing Zelda, and understanding it. My brothers started to hang out more with friends around town and spent that summer (or 3/4 of it playing Final Fantasy at a friends house--- a game which i still have yet to play.. hoping to change that soon) I stepped up to the challenge of Zelda and doing so rather well, having several hearts and even a triforce piece or two. My best friend (still from Kingergarden) started to get into the game with me and we slowly crawled to the end. I can remember the joy as we beat the game..... The victory was of short last, as a few days later I went down the street to my cousins house (about the age of my oldest brother) and he had Pitfall. This was my next game of choice, though I was never able to beat it, never played it long enough. But I remember the great laughs we had playing these games. I soon had all the Marios in my hands, as well as Rampage.... I spent most of my days playing these games as well as the others i purchased along the way or brought out of the closet...... until a

Few years later and the decline of NES brought me to the SNES.... This was a great system, and by the time I got it there were a few really good games out. I instantly bought about a dozen or so over the summer. But since I had Sega first, I put most of my effort to it, loving the sports games since the roots of Tecmo Bowl and J.E. quarterback, Sega offered the better sports games as I felt. But soon I came into the RPGs of SNES especially through Earthbound, which I borrowed off a friend and now have my own complete copy strat guide and all of this.. anyways.... I didn't beat Earthbound the first time around because me and my best friend had a bit of an offset and he was the source of the game so he took it back and gave it back to his other friend. I was the casual gamer till the playstation came out... The DARK YEARS!!

So many great games came out but I probably never heard of them, or until about 2 years ago (when an even better friend was founded). I played most of the great RPGs through him, as well as alot of other action and adventure games... We still play the NES and SNES, unfortunately all but 3-4 games are his as well as some of the basis system stuff is mine (he has his at his house). I played playstation daily with such titles like Final Fantasy 7, Tactics, Saga Frontier, and a few others before I got back into nintendo with the 64. For 64 I immediately got the WWF wrestling games, as well as the Mario type games, and a few others, but when Zelda came out, I realized Nintendo was better, it just took some time for it to get to N64 on its feet. Zelda did it. Along with Turok 1/2 and other games My attention turned to Nintendo, but was taken back quick with the release of FF8, Breath of Fire 3, and some Resident Evils. This trend kept up till about a week ago, when I realized how much I love games, and enjoyed playing them. I've been making lists and such and browsing the 'net, looking for these treasures. I am now on a Crusade to get back all the old games on all systems but mainly NES and SNES. (Dont have Gameboy but hey why not!)
