I can't get no Satisfaction!

I've heard many people diss a great game because it has bad graphics, or doesn't have blood or gore. If you judge a game by it's graphics or bloodiness, then you'll be the next Mick Jagger. You won't be able to get any satisfaction.
If a developer spends too much time tinkering with the graphics, less space will be available for the gameplay. Imagine a game, that had really good graphics, but all you did was walk straight forward the whole game and it took 24 hours to beat the game and there were no save points. Would you want a game like that, even though the graphics look exactly real? I didn't think so. Now imagine a game. It's graphics were like Atari 2600, but the game play was the best ever. Which game would you want?
What I really don't understand is why some people only play games if they have blood and gore in them. That's the stupidest thing of all. To those people: would you still play Mortal Kombat, Perfect Dark, or Doom if they didn't have blood in them? It's still the same game, but without the blood, gore, chopping, splattered body parts, etc. in them. If you like to watch people suffer, then you belong in a mental hospital! What if that character was you?
I may seem biased against good graphics and blood now, but in truth, I'm not. I do believe that graphics make somewhat of a difference. If two games are exactly the same in every way, but one has better graphics, I'd take the one with better graphics. I think everyone would. And I play some games with blood, such as Age of Empires. I think these people need to focus in on what really makes a game: the game play.
