to 'Anime Sexist'

Response To Miss Wheedston... by ThingfromtheDeep
On June eighteenth, I was on the NintendoLand Message Boards, reading
people topics and adding in my own two sense when I saw a topic posted
by a guy named "The Ubbergeek." He seemed to be angry about
some article ripping on anime, so I checked it out.
Well, I check it out and I have to say that I agree with some things,
but not many.
Now in the past, I've read numerous things and listened to countless
comments about how something or other is wrong with anime. Well, people,
I'm here to kill the rumours and straighten the facts.
Carmen. You said that Sailor Moon is sexist because just about every
battle goes liek this: Sailor Scouts go to fight monster, they get beaten
down and about to die, Tuxedo Mask comes and saves the day, while the
enemy is weak, Sailor Moon uses her newest wand and kills the monster.
Well, I have to agree with you there. Even though I am male, it pisses
me off because it IS pretty sexist.
You also pointed out the way anime movies and shows were a lot like
50's and 60's media the way the men were macho and brave while the women
were weak and stuff like that.
The thing is, there is no use complaining. A lot of Japanese media is
like that. In a way, the "trends" are behind those of America.
It's still more sexist than ours and they are into things that we were
into a while back. A good example is the fact that they are into pop
music a great deal, while rap and rock are the dominant music, here
in the good ol' U-S-Of-A.
You're ripping on someone's elses culture, which isn't good and no ammount
of ranting will do any good. And last but not least, you said that this
might affect our peers and hurt the future. Well, let's see this way.
The kids who will do society good and become productive members of society
won't BE affected by anime or anything like this. The ones who will
become killers, criminals and so forth WILL be affected. There's no
stopping it. If we got rid of anime, those who would become sexist would
STILL become sexist and those who become "gangstas" would
still become criminals if we took away rap music.
It's best not to worry about these things, because those who will grow
up good and straight will do so no matter what and those who grow up
wrong will do so.
Also, this wasn't any sort of attack on your person or anything, I'm
just stating what I think and trying to get people on the board from
complaining.
Later...
