Saria: A tree-hugging hippie?
By:Mme "Link" Thomas

In the real world, not many hippies still exist, but in the Zelda world, it could be another story. It's true that we never see Saria carrying a sign that says "Save the forest!" or "Where's the peace?", but can we imagine Saria as a hippie? To us, hippies sit in a circle smoking pot, singing Kumbiya, and wearing outragous bell-bottomed pants. The "flower-power" might not exist in Saria, but in the time of Zelda, their definition of a hippie is completelty different. She plays her ocarina and sits in the forest speaking of peace. Now this may not seem like a hippie thing to do, but I beg to differ. In the fifties and sixties, the world experienced the Vietnam War. Hippies in that era paraded around, saying "peace, man" and so on. In her own way, Saria does this exact thing. You decide for yourself. Is Saria really the calm forest girl we see her as, or peace hungry hippie?
