Sexist Video games? Well, Yes and No
By: Odnetnin

I wrote Agustín Huambachano an e-mail explaining the case the way I see it. Yes, I will come out and say it. I prefer playing games with male hero's saving damsels in distress and such. Why? Because that was what I was taught as a child. Have you ever read a fairy tale where the chick saved some helpless guy trapped by and evil woman? No! Men want to be the guys saving the woman's ass. It makes us feel manly. However, many women I've met can deal with not having to go out and fight for their man, not just because they like to be the damsel, but because society expects women to be a certain way.

So what? Fairy Tales are long gone. Let's see women get the action.

Well, as simple as that seems, It's not really that easy. The reason I went off into that first paragraph was to show what men want from playing games. Well, video game companies care less about women than men because men play games more than women. It's true. A lot of chicks feel that their time would be better spent talking on the phone and reading Seventeen. This may seem a bit stereotypical, but you know what I mean.

But, that still doesn't change the fact that video games are sexist!

You're right. All that ^ info above doesn't change anything. In fact, it more proves that video games are sexist. Well, they are. But!…. they're getting better. Samus was a big step. She's the bitch, seriously. Then there's Princess. You say she's a helpless bimbo, yet in the only game you get to use her in, she and the green oaf they call a hero are the only two that you could possibly use to beat Wart. Even though I hate PlayStation, I'll bring up Lara, as she is the baddest of the video game chicks. Unless of course you count Carlington's top agent.
Now, when Rare had the option of making another Bond, I bet they drooled over the idea. The problem was that Bond isn't a real enough character. He drinks too much, yet he stays in perfect shape. He's been smoking since the 50's, yet he's in perfect health and you could set your clock to his shiny white smile. Is anyone getting tired of Bond? I like to watch his movies as much as the next guy, but Joanna was the perfect thing to bring us out of the GoldenEye era. We get a girl who saves the world every week, but who's still real enough to love chocolate, paint her toenails, and do aerobic videos on the weekends.
Women do fit right in to video games, but we don't see them that often. Carrie in Castlevania was an obnoxious crybaby, so everybody picked Reinhard. And I swear I wanted to slap around the chick from Secret of Mana.
The point is that while Nintendo tries not to be sexist with it's games, the entire gaming industry is male-driven and unfortunately it probably always will be. Sorry Agustín Huambachano, but as much as it sucks, video games will probably always be sexist. Lets just try to enjoy the few good games we get with females in them.
