Super Mario World: What's it like in Japan?

What's a kappa?
If you've read the SMW manual, you know that the Yellow Switch Palace is on "Kappa Mountain." I always thought it was because it sounded like "Koopa," until I read Harry Potter 3, and realized it. See the picture below to see what I mean.

As you can see, the kappa's head has a striking resemblence to the bottom of the mountain.

The Castle

No surprise here. In Japan, it says "KOOPA."

Title Screen

I can see 5 differences.

1. Bigger shadows behind "SUPER MARIO WORLD."
2. No star next to the 96 goals.
3. Different copyright dates.
4. Different "TM."
5. It's in different languages.

Yoshi's House
In the Japanese version, the letter is signed "Super Dragon Yoshi." On the mailbox, the YOSHI sign is, of course, in Japanese. One last thing. Ever wonder why there's a T with a line over it on the mailbox? That's the symbol for the Japanese postal service.

See ya next time, when I'll be doing Super Mario RPG.
