There has been some fussing about how Link could "regain his childhood"
without creating some huge time-paradox. Well, here's my theory.
What if Ganondorf, who is drifting in The Void, is not only locked out
of Hyrule, but outside of time as well? Think about it. It would
explain a few things (but not all of them).
1) Link could regain his 'lost time'
2) An entire family of Links have to fight the same Ganon(dorf)
(see also the Deathmatches).
3) The return of the Sages. After all with the Evil One gone the
temples no longer send out their "distress signals"
This possible explanation probable contains some problems and paradoxes
as well, but if you're looking for a truly logical explanation this is
probably the closest.

(Of course the REAL explanation is of course that Nintendo hadn't
thought the whole thing through, but that would just spoil the fun of
dreaming up plausible solutions.
