The Way I See It

I know the ending of Zelda 64 is confusing, but I will try to sum it up for you. Okay, First you have to beat 3 bosses to get the 3 spiritual stones and you'll have to get the Ocarina of Time from Zelda or Impa. Next, pull out the Master Sword and go 7 years in to the Future. Get all 6 medallions from the sages and all the necessary items required to beat Ganon. When you find him in the Hyrule Castle, he'll have Zelda and want to fight you.

After you beat him, you have 3 minutes to get out of the castle before it crashes on you. He'll want to fight you again and the after you beat him, Zelda and the sages will banish him forever. Then Zelda will ask for the Ocarina and send you back to the forest to live throughout the 7
years.

Here comes the confusing part, When you freed the sages in the future and after Ganon was dead, in the past, all his hatred is gone the sages will protect the world from the other evil in those seven years you missed. Then you can stay in the forest but you will still remember everything you went through.

When you cross in to another dimension in those 7 years, you will have to rescue Epona and save the people from the moon who threatens to crash in to the world. Here when you put on a mask, you change into that creature.

You will encounter many people who belong in the dimension Link came from such as Koume (one of the witch duo in the Gerudo temple) and the skullkid who kidnapped Epona in this dimension and you will also meet 2 new fairies who tell you when this creature tries to capture Epona after you get it back from the skull kid. This time Epona will put up a good fight and knock him off.
