Zelda64 Paradox: Solved
By: Vivian Lam

I realize that articles have already been written concerning the paradox in Zelda64’s ending. However, I have decided to write what I believe happens.

If Zelda64 is the true prequel to the original Zelda, then the ending of Zelda64 must continue towards the original Zelda. So, here’s what might happen:
When Link travels back in time, the events may occur different from the events that you experience in the game. Confused? Well let’s say that sometime after Link meets Zelda, Ganon changes his plans a bit. Remember how Zelda and Impa fled on horseback from Ganon? Well let’s say Ganon manages to capture Zelda. This event would mark the beginning of the original Legend of Zelda. It fits in perfectly! Link would be somewhere in the middle of Hyrule field, and Zelda would be imprisoned by Ganon. I remember an article wrote asked that if Impa was a Sage in Zelda64, then how could she be Zelda’s attendant in Zelda 1 and 2? Well if what I wrote is true, then Impa wouldn’t know she’s a Sage in Zelda 1 and 2. Impa would only know she’s a Sage in Zelda64.

And what about Zelda Gaiden? Well it could fit in almost anywhere between Zelda64 and the original Zelda. According to Nintendo, Zelda Gaiden takes place three months after Zelda64. Link would ride Epona around Hyrule in search of Navi (i think). He would then meet two different Fairies, and that’s where Zelda Gaiden starts. After Zelda Gaiden ends, Link might return from the parallel universe only to find out Zelda has been captured by Ganon. We’ll have to wait and see what really happens at the end of Zelda Gaiden.
