Tips for writing good fanfics

First of all we don't like when people write their stories like they were scripts for a movie.
Don't write:
Mario:Huh?.....Hiya! *Hi jump kick in Bowser's face*
Instead write:
"Huh?.....Hiya!" Mario screamed, and jump kicked bowser in the face.

Get the punctuation right.
Some writers write like this:
"Hey, wait a minute." Luigi said.
Instead you should use a comma. Never use periods inside quotation marks (when someone is saying something). Instead write:
"Hey, wait a minute," Luigi said.

When you write like this you often tend to forget the comma that should be after "said". Like this:
Luigi said "Hey, wait a minute"
The right way of writing is:
Luigi said, "Hey, wait a minute"
With a comma after said.

You can now combine the two ways of writing like this:
"Hey, wait a minute," Luigi said and ran after Mario, "Slow down a bit Mario!"

Many writers tend to use the word "zzzzzzzzzzzz" too much. Bear in mind that rading words like those in a text is _very_ irritating. My suggestion is, try to never use the "zzzzz" when someone is sleeping. Instead use the word "snore" or you just write "Mario was sleeping loudly".

Don't overuse CAPITAL letters and exclamation points! I know it's fun to write "OAAAWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" when someone is hit by a punch and it really hurts, but please don't. Instead use words to describe how hard the hit was. Like this:
"Mario laid all his weight behind the punch and and it his Bowser right on the cheek. The big Koopa King screamed in pain."
My advice is: Never ever use capital letters, except for maybe when the characters read on a sign and it's written with capital letters on the sign.
Even if someone is screaming, use normal letters. Instead of writing:
"OAAAYAYYA"
write:
"oayay!" Bowser screamed.
Exclamation points can be used when someone is scraming out loud or is exclamating some thing, but don't overdo it and please, please do _not_ put more than one exclamation point in a row.

Tricky words.
Some words are mixed up more than others:

Accept, Except
Accept means "to receive". Example: Please accept my gift.
Except means "not including". Example: I brought all the gifts except yours.

Advice, Advise
Advice is an "opinion about what should be done". Example: She gives good advice.
Advise means "to recommend". Example: Please advise me on what to do.

Affect, Effect
Affect
means "to influence". Example: Do not let the loss affect you.
An effect is "a result". Example: The loss did not have an effect on me.

It's, Its
It's
is the short form of "it is". Example: It's in the dog house.
Its is a pronoun that shows ownership or possession. Example: The dog has its own house.

Than, Then
Than
means "in comparison with". Example: He is bigger than me.
Then means "next". Example: After going home, he then started his assignment.

To, Too and Two
To
means "in the direction of". Example: He went to the store.
Too means "also". Example: He went to the store, too.
Two is a number. Example: Two of my friends went to the store.

Your, You're
Your
is a form of "you" that shows ownership. Example: Your car is new.
You're is a short form of "your are". Example: You're going to the store.

Weather, Whether
Weather
means "conditions outdoors". Example: The weather is terrible.
Whether is an expression of choice between two options. Example: I do not know whether I will stay home or go to school.

Hope these small tips can help you to write even better fanfics. Happy writing!
