Chapter 1

A funeral was held for Toad the next day. It was set in the most beautiful area of the mushroom kingdom, a woodsy area a few acres from Peach's house. The sun always seemed to shine perfectly in this very area of the forest and in the pond nearby, ducks would swim happily. But today no one would be happy. Every known inhabitant of the mushroom kingdom had shown up to the funeral and not a single one of them wore a smile. Even Bowser stared at Toad in his two-foot long open coffin in a grief stricken state of madness. They were all so confused to what happened to Toad. They would never know what happened to him and that scared them. It scared them all.
A few people went up and spoke about Toad and shared tears as they viewed the coffin being lowered into a hole in the center of the most beautiful place in the mushroom kingdom. And there upon Toad's resting place laid a hand carved gravestone made special by Yoshi. They all already missed Toad so much but there was nothing they could do. Sadly, they all said they're final good-byes and slugged home, frown's covering their faces in horrid wretchedness.
Luigi stayed at the grave sight, his eyes half closed and tearing. He moved his hand across the smooth top of the gravestone in painful disbelief.
"Toad." He whimpered and fell on his knees resting his head on the side of the gravestone. He moved his hands slowly through his dark brown hair and leaned back to see the front of the gravestone:
    ~ Toad ~
    - Friend to us all -
    1985-2001
It was all very lovely. But the fact that there would no longer be the red topped little mushroom man running around drove Luigi crazy. Luigi slowly stood up and wiped his eyes.
"Goodbye Toad." He said with a small sigh.
He moved his hands into his pockets and with his head turned down began walking away from the grave sight. Luigi thought back to all the times when Toad had helped Luigi and Mario during they're many adventures and mishaps. Toad was always there to give him and Mario important information or special items that would solve they're problems. Toad really was a great guy. In no way at all did he deserve to die as terrible as he…Luigi stopped walking.
    "Mario." He whispered to himself.
Where was Mario today? Luigi didn't remember seeing Mario show up at Toad's funeral. Immediately Luigi began worrying that something was wrong and he started off to Mario's house in a hurry. What if whatever had gotten Toad got Mario too! Luigi was so scared. He sprinted over rocks and bushes rushing as fast as he could go towards Mario's house. He ran leaving a small trail of dust behind him and soon enough arrived at the house. Breathing hard and panting he knocked on the door violently.
    "Mario!"
    He knocked harder.
    "Mario!!"
    No answer.
Luigi stepped aside and looked at the two windows on the front of Mario's house, both covered by curtains. Luigi looked around in thought. He bounded back and then ran straight towards the front door leaning his right shoulder forward and in a split second made impact. The door's hinges split in half and chipped wood spiraled down to the ground followed by the door. Luigi stepped through the doorway and ran frantically through Mario's house checking every room and space there was to look in. Moment's later Luigi stopped in Mario's living room with pure hopelessness in his eyes. Mario wasn't there. Luigi felt like crying again, it was all just so horrible. Luigi took another glance around and then stopped when he looked outside. What was going on? Something was falling from the sky! Luigi stepped out of Mario's house through the doorway and looked up. It was…
    "Snow!" Luigi exclaimed.
Bright white snow flakes falling from the sky. Now, it's not like it never snows in the mushroom kingdom. It just usually doesn't snow during summer…
