Chapter 3

It snowed lightly across the land of the mushroom kingdom. Luigi was slowly moving along a dirt path, heading towards his house. He kept thinking over and over again in his mind the things that could've happened to Mario. Something must've been wrong. Mario would've never missed Toad's funeral unless he was in trouble somehow. It was driving Luigi insane. He was very tired now; he just wanted to go home and rest a bit. Yes, rest would do him well. Maybe, in the morning all of this would clear…Luigi looked up quickly.
    "(Sniff, sniff) Smoke?"
He ran ahead a bit more smelling the bothering scent of charred wood. Something was definitely burning. Luigi jogged cautiously looking left and right as he went to possibly find the direction that would lead him to what was aflame. Luigi exited the forest area and headed towards the lake located a few yards from…his house!
    "My house!" Luigi gasped.
In front of his very eyes was his home; hand built by himself, on fire and burning section by section of wood down to ash. Luigi held his nose and squinted. He stood three yards away from his house watching helplessly as his stone chimney slipped out from the foundation that kept it up and crumble as it met the ground. The snow was nowhere near heavy enough to make a difference in putting the fire out. Months of hard work now turning a horrible black and brown, planks from his roof slid down and cracked as they fell one by one, the walls slowly weakening and beginning to cave in. Luigi slowly shook his head in disbelief. Why was this happening. Luigi ran to the side of the house and watched as the glass from his windows shattered from the intense heat. Suddenly, Luigi heard an angry yell coming from somewhere near his backyard. Luigi took off towards the back to look. The smoke from the fire was incredibly thick, big spirals of it chugging out from every end of his burning home. Luigi saw a silhouette of a small figure throwing rocks and dirt at the fire and yelling maniacally.
    "Toad?" Luigi questioned.
It couldn't be Toad. But it surely looked like a toadstool. Luigi glanced around at the area of his house and the smoke pouring out from every burning nook and cranny. He threw his arms over his face and ran threw a thick wall of the gray stuff hoping to get a closer look at the figure in his backyard.
    "Hey!" He yelled.
    "Hey, who's there!"
What he thought was a toadstool stopped throwing objects at his house and looked up at where Luigi was. He seemed to look around in worry and then sped off past the burn sight and into the forest area where Luigi had previously came out of. Luigi ran to where the supposed toadstool was to get a look as to where he might have taken off, but it was to late. As far as Luigi could see there was no sign of the little guy. Luigi sighed in disappointment and trudged back over to the front of his house. His house was gone forever. He sadly began to run through the forest. After a few minutes he reached Peach's house and knocked on the door lightly. Peach answered with a quiet,
    "Who's there?"
"It's Luigi." He let out with a short breath.
Peach opened the door and met Luigi with a look of worry on her face.
    "What's wrong." She asked.
He replied, "Can I use your phone?"
