BS Mario Excite Bike

Excite Bike on the SNES with Mario & friends!

Remember the old Excite Bike game for the NES? It was a racing game to play over and over again... Now what would you say about play it again on your SNES with enhanced graphics and Mario and friends as the drivers? Bad news is that this game was only made for The Japanese satellite system Satellaview a.k.a. the "BS-X"
and was never released on cart, ever. The Satellaview was a device that you connected to your SNES. Then you could downloaded games and info from a Satellite.
When you start the game a counter in the left upper corner of the screen starts ticking while some texts roll by. You'll have to wait about one or two minutes before you can start playing the game.
We assume that this delay is because the game had to be downloaded from the satellite before you could play it.
Now the title screen is presented and you can choose your driver. You can choose from Wario, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad and Wario but as far as we know there are no difference in their handling, speed or grip.

Choose your driver!

When you have chosen a driver you are transported to the first course and after a bit of loading time can get to race on it. First you practice alone on the track around 6 or 7 laps. The, the real race starts.

If you look closely at the crowd in the background you can spot some chain chompers, Shyguys, Bloopers and fishes.

There are all on all 8 drivers on the track: Mario and his friends plus 4 Koopa Troopas. The game is played pretty much like the original but some new ideas have been added. On the course you can get stuck in oil, or mud and driver or ramps to fly high up in the air. Just like in Mario Kart you collect coins that enables you to drive faster. If you drive into someone from behind you fall and lose some coins. The Turbo is also there, but what watch that "Temp"!

Some of the that pictures you get to view while the game is being downloaded from the Satellite.

Bonus Game!

Every now and then you get to play special bonus games. There are 2 different bonus games, "Long jump" and "Boo jump"
.

Long Jump

You try to get a as high speed as possible before the jump and then try to land on both wheels. You get points for how long you've jumped and how good your landing was.

"Boo jump"

This is one of the weirdest things. You know how motorcycle artists show off by jumping over cars? Think that but replace the cars with "Boos" (ghosts) instead! The Boos appear in different constellations and you must jump over them to reach the finish as soon as possible.
