Quick facts:
In this Yoshi is the one who does most of the work. Mario just rides on his back.

After four whole year a new Mario game for the SNES finally came and you can say that maybe it is the best Mario games ever. The game takes place way before all the other Mario games. It starts with that a stork is flying through the night to deliver two twins that is going to be born in the Mushroom Kingdom. Guess who the twins are... Mario and Luigi. When the Stork is flying in the night suddenly a creature zooms and steals one of the babies (Luigi) and the other one (Mario) falls to the ground. The thief is a sorcerer named Kamek. That night he had been having a vision that two babies was being born in the Mushroom Kingdom that would cause the Bowser family a lot of trouble. When he  gets back with the twins late that night he discovers that Mario is missing! He sends out all his troops to search after Mario.
Meanwhile.... A little green dinosaur walks around on the Yoshi Islands when suddenly a baby comes falling from the sky and falls on his back. The baby has got a map in its hands that tells where it shall be delivered. Now it´s up to Yoshi and his Yoshi friends to bring Mario to his parents. Yoshi can in this game transform into different "vehicles" like trains, submarines, choppers or as a mole. Yoshi can also produce eggs that he can shoot at the enemies. If Yoshi is hit by an enemy Mario is thrown of his back and floats around in a bubble. If that happens Yoshi must catch Mario before Kamek's troops do. Mario doesn't do much more than sit on Yoshi's back in this game, really...

If Yoshi finds a certain item Mario can jump of Yoshi's back and run around the course like "Super Mario", he is invincible and can jump, run up wall and use his cape to fly though the air.
