The R&D1 Team |
The R&D1 team lead by Gunpei Yokoi has for example designed the Game Boy and the Virtual Boy. Metroid (the first game with a female hero?!) and Kid Icarus has alos come from the R&D1 team. They were described as "a band of samurai" operating in silence with less recognition that the other teams. Gunpei Yokoi

This Team was lead by Masayuki Uemura and has been behind much of the hardware. Uemura's team was often assigned all sorts of top secret projects. 65 people worked under Uemura. Masayuki Uemura |
The R&D3 Team |
This 20 people team lead by Takeda Genyo was responsible for much of the technical stuffs like the bank switching and later the many MMC chips just to mention some things. The team has also done games like Star Tropics etc. Takeda's team nicknamed "Rumania" had a motto "There are no limitations, no boundaries; since were're on our own there's nothing we can't do; when you start with nothing you can do everything"! This team is isolated from the other teams and can be described as a band of "otakus" (computer hackers and nerds).

3 years after the release of Nintendo's first real smash hit Donkey Kong in 1981 Shigeru Miyamoto got his own R&D team. This team called "Jojo Kaihatsu" or the "entertainment division" only has one assignment: to come up with the best and most imaginative games ever and as we all know they have! Shigeru Miyamoto

Chrono Trigger was a product of the co-operation between Hironbu and
Akira Toriyama and Yuji
Horii.
Yoshitaka Amano
A Japanese Illustrator and Character Designer that has designed characters
in many of Squares titles, for example the very first Final Fantasy game.
Nobuo Uematsu
Nobuo started at Square in 1986. He has made the music for all the
Final Fantasy games and is the first to have his peaces on the Japanese hit
list. He has done all the great tunes for FF2 and FF3 which both have been
released in improved versions on CD in Japan.
Koji Kondo the man who has made all the great tunes for all the Mario and Zelda games.
Nobuo Uematsu The ace who has done all the fantastic tunes for the Final Fantasy games.
Chris Hülsbeck A musician who has done music for the Turrican and R-type games.
Tim Follin has done music for the Ghouls n Ghost games and Rock n Roll Racing.
