The first thing I did when I got this was turn it on. When I saw the Title screen and then heard the Donkey Kong Country music theme, I knew I was going to be treated to a graphic adventure. It turned out I did. I had only rented the game a few times on my SNES. So I didn't remember much of the game. This game is a great game for the GBC. Rare has surely accomplished a hard task to fit this whole game on the GBC, but has pulled it off terrifically.
The story of DKC is that one night, Kremlings stole Donkey Kong's Banana Hoard, Donkey Kong's prized collection. When Donkey Kong wakes up, his hoard is missing, and finds Diddy Kong stuck in a barrel with Kremling tracks all around it. He gets enraged, and starts his journey to get his hoard back.

The game play is very basic. You can jump or roll into your enemies. Except
some enemies may be invulnerable to one. Such as the Klap Trap has a huge mouth
to bite you with, and stays low to the groud. You do not want to roll into him!
Besides jumping and rolling you can: run, swing, swim, throw barrels, ride on
barrels, and more. Also, there are Animal Buddies. They are in boxes with an
animal symbol on it. Enguarde is one of them, he is a sword fish who is very
fast in water and can take down most harmful sea creatures. Once you jump on
the crate you become that animal. And when you get hit by something, you get
changed back.
In levels, bananas are like coins in Mario games. You get 100 and you get an extra life. Also, their are golden idols of the Animal Buddies. When you get three of one animal, you go to a bonus type level. There you collect as many little animal buddy icon as possible. Each one counting as one banana.

Ok, you are probably now saying, "Enough of what was in the original game,
what's new!?" Well, two bonus games have been added aside of the full game.
In Funky's Fishing, you try to pull up as many fish at one time and drop them
in your boat. But watch out for the trash! In Crosshair Cranky, you shoot Kremlings
with coconuts. But each level has a different objective. One you have to clog
up holes with coconuts so your animal buddies can walk across.

You can also print things, such as banners and a special Donkey Kong alphabet. Also, their is a sticker book. During your adventure, you will see green banana bunches, which signal that a sticker is near. There are also new bonuses added in each level!
Let's just say the DKC may have some of the best graphics for the Game Boy. Not close enough to the SNES version, but very good for a portable system. The sound is pretty good too.
DKC is a must have for GBC owners! But for people who own or owned the original DKC, you will not find much new stuff to make you want to buy this. Unless you want enjoy one of your fav games on the road - Cyrus 94%
