When I bought this game, I bought it to remind me of some old games like it. Well, it did bring back the memories. I had never even heard of R-Type until I bought this. And I have to say, this game is a great Game Boy game.
R-Type DX is the collection of the R-Type games. It has R-Type I and R-type II. but, there are two versions of each. Color and Black and White. So people with the original Game Boy can play it. In addition to 1 and 2, there is R-Type DX, which combines the 2! Once you beat all modes, there is one secret one to unlock. The De Souza Editor! You can go around and draw (You put in little dots)! So as you can see, this game has a lot packed in to it!
Ready for action!
In R-type I, Earth has learned that Extra-terrestial mutants from the Bydo Empire were gathering their forces to make an all out attack on Earth. The only chance to stop them is one lone R-Type fighter to penetrate the Empire's defense undectedand destroy their leader, El Supremo. In R-Type II, deep space probes has found a secret Bydo base. Once again, you are asked to stop them.
The first boss, sends a shiver down your spine
The game play is like any other classic arcade game. You move up and down and fire at the masses (Which are some of the best gameplay). At one point you will be flying through space, then on a planet. Each level has a boss at the end. The bosses all have a different fighting pattern, so new strategies must be planned for each.
The legendary power pod
In the game, there are things called power pods. You have to destroy a POW shuttle. Once that happens, you run into the little icon where you destroyed it. The pod can be used as a weapon, and a shield, in which it attaches to the front or back. You can detach it by presing A, once detached, it can also fire shots. But, you can sort of upgrade your power pod. Some enhancements are the laser and the fire chain. They fire also with your normal shot! Which creates real havoc...Plus, there are other enhncements for your ship.
The graphics and sound are great!
R-Type DX is a perfect example of a great arcade side scroller. A must have for old fashioned arcade fans. But great for any other action fan. I must say, this game is very frustrating! The game is just made to drive you crazy. I thought I was going to explode from anger on one level. Usually, once you beat that level, you calm down a bit. So be very happy to beat some levels, this game is hard!! - Cyrus 88%
