Lake Hylia Now that you’ve beaten the Ice Cavern, you should head to Lake Hylia to get to the Water Temple. Either get here on foot, horseback, or by playing the Serenade of Water (which is the most practical choice). First, if you haven’t already done so earlier, head to the fishing pond on the east side of Lake Hylia. You can get here by playing the Scarecrow’s song underneath the entrance, or by taking a ride on bean plant you may have planted as a kid. While at the pond, catch a fifteen pound fish (or larger if possible) to receive the Golden Scale from the Pond Owner (but he won’t give it to you if you used the sinking lure). The Golden Scale will allow you dive eight meters straight down into the water. Now, try and catch a 23 pound fish or bigger (23 pounds is my record but I’m sure it can be beaten). If you played the Serenade of Water to come to Lake Hylia, you would’ve warped to a spot right above the Water Temple. The Water Temple is located underneath the island with the big, dead tree on it. Put on your Zora’s Tunic and your Iron Boots, and drop to the bottom of the lake. You’ll see a gate blocking the entrance to the Water Temple so you’ll have take out your Hookshot and shoot the diamond-shaped bolt right above the entrance. The bolt will float away to the surface and the gate will slide up and open.
