n
the beginning, the world was as a void, an empty place where nothing
existed, merely an expanse of nothingness.
It
was then luck, or perhaps fate, when three sisters happened upon this
lonely world. How they entered this world is beyond all comprehension
of mere mortals, but the fact that they came is truly a miracle to this
Chosen Land, for these three sisters were not merely ordinary women.
They were goddesses...
The
goddesses floated into the world from whence they entered, and they looked
upon the void. The sisters frowned at the lonely place, much
disappointed with the way things were. Without even uttering a word
or counseling with another, they came to a decision together: they would
fill the void. The
sisters nodded to each other, and knew instantly what needed to be done.
The
first sister to work her magic upon this world had the name, when translated
from the unspeakable language of the goddesses, Din. Din had fiery red
hair running down past the small of her back and a fierce yet smiling
face of determination yet passion. Her red robes swirled around her
ankles as she descended from the heavens.
She
looked down upon the world once again, and a smirk came across her face.
In a sudden movement, she threw her arms out at her sides and began
a chant, continually growing louder as she spoke as her sisters watched
curiously. Din commanded her powers forcefully, and in a violent rage
she dived at the devoid world, flying at an incredible speed. As
she plummeted closer and closer, the earth began to rumble and quake,
mildly at first, then violently.
Just
before plunging into the earth, she spun herself upwards and flew along
the earth's surface, carving out a stone valley in her wake. She made
a series of turns to the left and right, the land obeying her every
whim. As she plunged downward, her valley became wider and deeper. When
she flew upward, mountains rose along the surface with her, matching
the pattern she held within her heart.
This
went along for hours as Din spanned the globe, altering the terrain
with every pass, making treacherous mountains, deep valleys, and flat
plains, constantly reshaping the planet to her liking. After looking
down once more upon her world, and finally satisfied with her work,
she flew back to her sisters in the sky, bearing a pleased smile on
her face. Din had shaped the world.
One
of her sisters, however, looked upon the world with a different aura.
Her name was Nayru. The world was not yet done; even after Din's wondrous
works, the world was still devoid of the element she favored most: wisdom.
She looked at Din and smirked, and then descended to the planet's surface,
landing gracefully.
Her
benevolent blue eyes closed, and her hands folded into each other as
if she were praying. Her beautiful blue hair flowed freely as a gentle
breeze began flowing past her. Din watched with increased interest to
see what her sister would add to her masterpiece.
Nayru
murmured some words to herself, repeating them again and again with
the same solace and inner calm she kept so well. As she prayed, she
began to glow; a white light came from within her and brightened the
world with an unquenchable light, the hills casting shadows in their
wake. The light intensified as she prayed, and using some form of magic
unknown to all save the goddesses, even the rolling backs of the hills,
the mountains, and the valleys were immersed in this gentle light, covering
all surfaces equally. Nayru had blessed the world with the light of
order.
As
Nayru returned to her two sisters, Din smiled almost sheepishly as she
hugged her sister warmly. Nayru interpreted and understood the embrace
at once, for she had given the fledgling world just as much of her
power as Din had given it, locking their powers in perfect harmony.
Din's earth would be subservient to the laws of the sciences Nayru's
order had created, but in turn Din's wild nature would still be chaotic,
random, and unruly. Their powers worked together in perfect harmony.
The
third sister, clad in a forest green, cleared her throat slightly so
as to call the attention of her two sisters. They quickly twirled around
to face her, and they shook their heads teasingly. The third sister,
called Farore, just smiled quickly at them and made her descent down
to the world's surface, just as her two sisters had before her.
When
Farore reached the planet, she sat down upon the land that her sister
Din had
shaped with her legs crossed. She stretched her arms upwards towards
the sky for barely a moment before cupping them to her mouth, exhaling
the breath of life into her hands. Her sisters in the sky above her
felt their sister's magic in the air around them.
Farore
took her hands from her mouth, and then knelt on her knees. She leaned
towards the ground and, ever so gently, touched the ground with her
hands. From the instant her hands touched the dusty ground, green plants
began growing in an ever-widening circle from the earth. Grass grew,
trees branched, flowers bloomed, and life flourished. Within moments,
Farore knelt within a deeply forested jungle. However, Farore wasn't
done yet.
Fearing
the consequences of what her presence would do for her next trick, she
floated upwards, out of sight from the thickly vegetated world below.
Farore pressed the palm of her left hand to her lips and kissed it.
Then, cupping it under her chin, she blew across her hand, spreading
her love to the world below. Once done, she flew upwards quickly, only
glancing down once to see her work. Farore had formed life.
Returning
to her sisters, they held each other in a group hug, giggling amongst
themselves. Farore, just as Nayru had done, had placed her blessing
in harmony with her sisters'. The life she had spawned would be rulers
of the land Din had created, yet the land would return its dominance,
controlling the life through chaotic weather. Farore's life would strive
towards the Order that Nayru created, yet they had the power to destroy
her Order in bloody wars. The three forces -- Power, Wisdom, and Courage
-- worked as one.
The
sister-goddesses now smiled at the world, and looked into each others'
eyes. They giggled again and nodded again in agreement. Mentally they
decided to give their newborn world a name, a name in their own language.
Together in unison, they spoke one word together. "Hyrule."
Balance. Hyrule was now alive.
The
thought of leaving the world at that moment crossed their minds, but
they held back. Even though the balance of the world was created by
a trio of immortals, the balance would be unstable in the hands of the
mortals. They wanted to solidify the balance more completely so that
the imperfect beings below would not destroy the work they put into
the new world.
The
three sisters created a new land, modeled feature-for-feature in the
face of Hyrule; a parallel land to the one they created. Having made
the first world once, creating this mirror image took a mere matter
of minutes. The goddesses also named this land, but the name they gave
it is unpronounceable by mere mortals. However, the meaning of this
name, in the tongue of the Hylia, is the Sacred Realm.
They
blessed this new land will all of their strength, passion, and love,
and they connected the two worlds together by magic. The magic of the
goddesses was interwoven into the very fabric of the realm, and it slowly
trickled into Hyrule, making Hyrule and many of the beings within it magical.
Being
done, the goddesses decided to leave. From above the world, they all
three dived down into the second world, the Sacred Realm. As they approached
the ground, a tear in the fabric of time was made, big enough for the
goddesses to fit through. They converged ever closer, and as they reached
the portal, they collided together, merging their three forces into
one combined force. The tear enveloped them, and the goddesses left
the world.
However,
just as they collided to leave the world, a fragment of their power
from the combined force forked off of them, leaving a magical artifact
and symbol in their stead. Three golden equilateral triangles, together
placed in the shape of a larger equilateral triangle, floated above
the land, symbolizing and at the same time containing the powers of
the goddesses themselves. It shone so brightly that it turned the sky
a golden amber color from its normal blue. It would be written down
in legend as the Triforce.
Thus
ends the story of the goddess' creation. Hyrule was completed, the goddess'
most balanced, most perfect world.
