nowing that his time was severely limited, Link, now as a Deku, scurried off into Clock Town. He had no idea where to start looking, but he did have some odd sense that the source of evil he had encountered was still nearby. He went around town, talking to the people, and as he did, he noticed that this new place seemed quite familiar. Everything, aside from the slightly more advanced technology, seemed to be exactly like Hyrule, just in a different layout. So it was odd when people he had known as a child back in Hyrule took him for a stranger. After talking to some people, Link discovered he wasn't in Hyrule anymore, but in a land named Termina.

As he explored and talked to the people of the city, he overheard some people talking about the moon overhead. Deku Link, being curious, decided to look up, and to his horrific surprise, he saw the moon was much bigger in the sky that it should be, and he realized that this was why the mask salesman was going to leave town after those 72 hours. The task before Link was now much graver that he first thought.

Link headed into the northern sector of the town and saw a cave towards the west. Thinking it odd for a cave to be in the middle of a city, he went an investigated the cave. Inside, he saw a faerie fountain, identical to the ones found in Hyrule, adding to the strange parallels he was making between this new land and Hyrule. However, instead of a Great Faerie, he found lesser faeries within instead. These faeries seemed frantic, and as soon as they saw Link, they flew to him, and they beckoned Link to find a lone stray faerie somewhere within the town that had wandered off. Only then would the Great Faerie awaken.

Link nodded his wooden head in agreement and ran off, trying to find the missing faerie. He had earlier in the day seen a sparkling light that morning over by the laundry pool in town, but when he returned that evening, it wasn't there. A little disappointed and frustrated, Link went off searching again, but it didn't take long to find it, as it lit up the dark streets easily. The Deku reached up for the faerie, and it immediately swirled around Link, asking him to return it to the other faeries in the city.

Link ran with the stray faerie in tow back to the faerie fountain, and as he arrived, the faerie flew towards the others, and magically the lesser faeries flew together and transformed into a Great Faerie. The Great Faerie looked down upon Link, realizing him to be a hero of great potential, despite his current form. Link asked the faerie if she could return him to his original form, the Great Faerie told him that her powers were still relatively weak. The Great Faerie saw Deku Link's disappointment, and so she granted him another prize instead. The faerie told Link that the magic Link had gained in Hyrule wouldn't work in this land, so she bequeathed unto Link a different texture of magic, which would allow Link in his current form to shoot bubbles from his mouth. Link, invigorated with new hope, thanked the faerie and left the cave.

No sooner than Link stepped outside, he saw a boy trying to pop a balloon in the air with a peashooter. Deku Link walked up to the boy, and he dared the Deku to pop the balloon. Deku Link, knowing his secret bubble-blowing technique now, was never one to turn up a challenge, made a decent-sized bubble and shot it at the balloon, popping it instantly. The boy jumped with a start, and commented at the Deku's skill. He called his other friends together, and the boy introduced Link to their squad, the Bombers. They would go around helping people within the city in any way possible. They told him about their secret underground lair where they held their meetings. Link mentioned that he'd like to see their lair, but the boys decided to challenge him further by playing hide-and-seek before allowing him in. Link would have to find and tag them by morning, and if he was able to do so, he'd gain access to the secret lair. Link sighed at the delay, but knew he had to play along in order to get anywhere.

The boys rushed off, and Deku Link sighed. He started chasing the boys with his short Deku legs, but the boys were quicker than Link expected, forcing Link to be very clever. He caught the first two quickly because he was lucky enough to corner them, but the others were trickier, as they would run flippantly across the square, one of which had even obtained a Cucco to fly off of a high railing. Though it took a nearly an hour of chasing them around, Link finally was able to tag all five of the Bombers Gang.

Link stood before the Bombers, proud though somewhat embarrassed of his accomplishment. The Bombers considered for a moment making Deku Link an exclusive member of their club, but eventually decided against it, seeing as how they didn't have a strong preference for Dekus. However, seeing as Link did complete their challenge, they gave Link their secret password to access the hidden lair and the observatory beyond. Link, not knowing where else to go, gave the password to the guard at the Bomber's Lair entrance. He hopped across the underground stream in the tunnel, climbed up several flights of stairs, and finally up to a large telescope with an old man peering into it. The old man greeted Link, telling him about some strange character atop of the clock tower. Link peered into the telescope, and saw none other than the Skullkid with the mask himself!

While Link peered through the telescope, he saw a small gem fall from the moon into the land below. Deku Link quickly ran out through the door and found the blue stone, apparently called the Moon's Tear. While picking up the gem, Link remembered a certain Deku Scrub who was looking for such a precious gem. Link also remembered his frustration at trying to get to the door of the Clock Tower that would open at midnight that day. Try as he might, he couldn't reach the ledge because of his short arms and legs. Link thought for a moment, and soon enough, the young Deku said goodbye to the astronomer and went back to Clock Town. He gave the Moon's Tear to the Deku scrub there in order to gain ownership of the Deku flower. Link smiled as much as a Deku could smile. He had everything in place to fulfill the mask salesman's request.

Since the main door of the clock wouldn't open for several hours yet, Link continued exploring on his own. He deposited some rupees he'd acquired in the bank, visited some shops, and played the village games. But as midnight approached, Link returned to the flower and launched himself to the door of the Clock Tower. As the clock struck twelve, the door opened, marking the day of the Festival of Time. Link hurried up the stairs and came face-to-face with the Skullkid. The two long-lost faeries greeted each other, but were eventually interrupted by the Skullkid.

The Skullkid held up Link's Ocarina he had received from Zelda, and the blood within him boiled. He angrily shot a massive bubble blast at the Skullkid, and it started the kid behind the mask so much that the Ocarina of Time was dropped onto the ground. Link rushed over and glided over it, picking it up as he did. It was when he had the Ocarina back in his hands that he began to have flashbacks...

Link remembered his last meeting with Zelda before he left on this journey. Zelda had given him the Ocarina to keep him safe, but before she did, she re-taught him a song, since much of Link's memory of his forgotten future was fuzzy. She taught him the Song of Time, and Link re-remembered the song as he played it with her...

Link came to again, realizing that the moon was drawing nearer and nearer with every second. He held the Ocarina in his hands, but instead of normally playing into an ocarina, the Ocarina of Time slowly shapeshifted into a set of horns, similar to a tuba. Link blasted the notes of the Song of Time, and a vortex opened. Link was quickly drawn in. He slowly fell down a deep well of light, falling backwards in time, he realized. As he did, Link relived flashes of all the occurrences that had happened just before meeting the mask salesman. He was dumped out at the door of Clock Town's clock tower. Interestingly enough, the moon was now high in the sky, just as it was their first day in Termina.

Tatl was amazed at the discovery, and she and Link realized that they'd have all the time in the world to fulfill the mask salesman's request, provided they kept playing the Song of Time every 72 hours.

Link returned to the Mask Salesman and showed him he had his Ocarina back. The salesman smiled and played a small melody on his organ, which Link then repeated on his set of Deku horns. This was the Song of Healing. As Link played the song, he could feel him returning to his normal self, and when the song finished, Link was once again holding the Ocarina, and a small Deku mask fell on the floor. The salesman explained to Link that the mask would allow Link to change forms every time he wore it.

However, the salesman then demanded the Mask of Majora from Link. Upon Link's reply, the salesman was driven into an angry rage. The salesman expressed to Link how vital that mask was and of the evils that it contained. He reiterated his need for the mask, and told him he had his 72 hours to get it.

With that, Link went journeying into Termina, free of the restrictions of time...
