The Legend of Zelda on GCN

After spending some time with the game and thoroughly playing the demo Nintendo graciously provided it is safe to say that the new Zelda on the GCN, dubbed as "Celda" by fans and critics alike, is definitely a Zelda. It feels fresh while hanging on to the past well enough to not leave us feeling as if it isn't Zelda. The challenges are clever and the fights fantastic, you would be hard pressed to say that the game is crud. Controls are similar to those found on the N64 titles. Though there have been some changes. "A" is now the sword and "B" is the "do-all" button. And you can crawl along the ground by crouching with "R" and moving the control stick where you want to go. Here will be a break down of the various areas out for toying with in the demo:

Dungeon: A volcanic dungeon, dark, murky and hot. So hot, there are heat distortions displayed in the game. A nice touch that compliments the entire atmosphere created for the area. Enemies are various and full of life. The puzzles aren't excruciatingly annoying to solve.

Boss Fight: This one shows off how excellent the fights will be. The lava-dwelling beast is a challenge but when you finally best him you come away feeling like you've really kicked some serious ass.

Sailing: This was a wild, goofy bit of carefree fun moving the boat about in the wind trying to keep from getting knocked off your boat, collecting rupees and reaching the goal in time.

Home Village: A nice little 'get to know the controls' area that also features a bit of a chance to meet and learn of characters in the game such as Link's sister Arill and his grandmother.

The game plays beautifully. Controls are tight and responsive and intuitive. The game is challenging and clever. And it's definitely an amusing game that's sure to please you. I suggest you give the game a whirl when you get the chance. You honestly have to play the game to appreciate it fully. Honest.

Keep tuned for when I update again with my impressions on "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past: The Four Swords" on the GBA.
