Shooting Down The Zelda Storyline Controversy

Well, the dry spell in the video game world is choking us gamers. We're all cranky and are patiently waiting for the E3/Spaceworld thing in May. Once that happens, we'll at least have something to talk (or argue) about. Yet now, Zelda boards are at loss for conversation, bumbling about useless topics and getting on eachothers nerves. There's no new games that are making a big hit for Nintendo, and fans are growing really bored. There are some who say that Zelda fanatics are actually dwindling, and some are blaming the arguments still (yes, still) being raged about the Zelda Cube game (I figured after all this time, the empty and pointless debates would cease, but some are going at it as passionately as before). The fact that these debates are still going, proves my point further in how itchy gamers are getting. Be that as it may, whatever a person's reasons, the people that are true to the end are the real fans, whether they're ! for the change, or not *realizes she's not making sense, and that she's getting caught into the trap of the "Celda Web", and quickly gets to her purpose of writing*

But I'm not writing an article about the whole Zelda thing...*everyone gasps*

No, I'm writing about something else, another debate that seems to draw out Zelda freaks, and really get them into a heated discussion. But this discussion is actually an intelligent one (more then I can say for the Zelda cubed dispute), and it gets a fan to thinking. I will call it "The Zelda Storyline Controversy". From what I can see, it's been going on for a while, and I've been reading post after post from various people on this topic in boards and on sites. Everyone has their own theories on how each Zelda game can fit together logically by piecing what they can together with the storyline plots in the games. What causes such controversy is that everyone has a different theory, and their order of Zelda titles always differ. They go into in-depth analysis (call it boredom or an extreme upsession) on how/why their theory works and is superior to everyone else's. All it does is basically confuse me, but I ha! ve got to wondering how these games do fit together. I'm not going to present to you my own theory, I don't have one, there seems to be enough out there all ready. But through this time of gaming drought (as well as an overwhelming lack of no life and nothing to do), and a loss of topics to write about, I've decided to go on a little hunt for knowledge and enlightenment. I doubt it'll close the discussion and end the debate, but it's worth the waste of time.

First, I decided to ask the head honchos at Nintendo, to see if they had any idea (you figure, since they did make the game), what I got was this:

"'Thank you for your e-mail. Although I know the order that The Legend of Zelda games were released in, I don't know how the stories link together. However, you might want to check our web site at www.zelda.com to see if they have discussed this topic there...'"

*hesitates for a moment, and decides to add the rest of the e-mail she had received from Nintendo*

"'Remember, though, that the Legend of Zelda is a series of video games, so the storyline among the games isn't always going to make perfect sense!'"

Doh!! *slaps herself in the head*

That was it. That's where I ended my hunt for truth, I saw no point in going further. I guess this is to logical for some of you people, but why argue about something that's not worth arguing? Gamers are trying to make something out of nothing! The Zelda series obviously aren't going to make perfect sense, it's a game. Life doesn't even make perfect sense, so why should a game? Sure, storylines are a good part of a game. But I don't lie awake at night, contemplating on how the game's storyline could be flawlessly connected by creating my own theoretical plot...why should I? There are a lot of loose strings in the story, but I'm not busting brain cells on it. The fact that there are a lot of blanks doesn't draw me away from the game, it just doesn't matter to me. I think it makes sense more then some other games out there...

*sighs* Okey, I'll shut up now.
