Single
Link Theory?
Well,
I recently brought you my reasons for supporting the Multiple
Link Theory, as can be seen here. However, I felt that my argument
wouldn't be complete without bashing the other side, first. There
are those that believe that a single legendary hero managed to
save Hyrule all those times in the period of a single life span.
There are several problems with this statement. First, let's look
at the landscape of Hyrule throughout the games. Examine Ocarina
of Time's Hyrule map. Now take a look at Link to the Past's Hyrule
map. You'll notice that the Lost Woods has grown feet and walked
to the other side of the map. The desert has sunk so that it is
level with Lake Hylia. Now, take a look at the whole map of Adventure
of Link. Everything's out of shape! Now, this is possible with
multiple Link's as landscapes DO change over time. However, to
say that this all happened during a single life span would be
hard to swallow. Now, take a look at the different races in the
various games. The Zoras seem to go from a group of rogues to
a civilization living in a city (or the other way around). The
Gorons come out of hiding and into play as a major race and even
start up some trade with the Hylians (or the other way around).
Huge civilization changes like these take time. Now, onto the
other evidence. Link meets Zelda "for the first time" in both
Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past. On top of this, he only
learns of her in Legend of Zelda from Impa. Why would Link totally
forget about her over and over? The only explanation is that there
is more than one Link. Also, after going through great quests
to get the Master Sword, the hookshot, and all those other dandy
items Link picks up, it seems quite a shame that he manages to
lose them every single game. Then he has to go get them again!
You would think that a single Link would catch on. With that final
thought, I leave you to ponder the errors of the theory. Thanks
for tuning in!
