How to Avoid Newbiedom

If you've been paying any attention to my recent articles, you've noticed that something annoys me about newbies. However, if you've listened closer you'd know that there are many newbies who I like. So, how do I tell one from the other? Well, I'm here to tell you how to get on my (and all other oldschool gamers) good side. If you're following these rules, then you're prolly a stand up gamer. If not…maybe you're… A NEWBIE!^_^ First rule: If you're new to an online forum or game server and some of the older members seem to be arguing…stay out of it! That's right, don't even voice an opinion. Wait atleast a week since the first argument occurred to find out more about the situation. It could be that they're just playing around and that if you had said something…you'd look like a fool. Also if you're new to an online forum or gaming server, be active. Join an RP, go on a quest, take part in discussions, whatever. It's the only way you'll learn. Each forum plays a little differently, so you'll have to see how everyone else does it first. Now here's an important one: Do not spam. By that, I mean don't make useless posts. Don't start topics or threads unless you're sure people want to post in it. Before you start a topic or post, ask yourself, is this really worth saying? Don't tell jokes that no one would get. And DO NOT post just to raise your post count. If one of the respected members of the society give you a bit of advice (i.e. don't RP like that, don't make topics like this) then listen to them. Listen immediately unless told otherwise. If you're new to a game, do not act haughty unless in a joking manner. When you get cut down by someone who knows what's going on, you'll feel dumb and look dumb. If someone insults you on a forum, take it as a joke. Even if you're sure they're not joking, you'll look better for not getting mad. In a game server, you have more freedom here. There are some real jerks in gaming. However, still, be cautious and make sure that your verbal attacker isn't just playing around. Never directly and seriously insult an older member. That's the worst mistake you can make. Feel free to joke around with 'em, but do NOT insult them for real. Well, if you follow these rules and are still hated…it's hopeless, sorry.
